Common questions about Flex Stone
How smooth must the substrate be for Flex Stone?
The substrate should be stable, clean, dry and smooth enough that defects will not telegraph through the flexible sheet. Repair cracks, loose material and sharp high spots first.
Do I need primer before applying adhesive?
Use the primer and adhesive system specified for the sheet and substrate. Porous, dusty or low-porosity surfaces may need different preparation, so complete a bond test before full installation.
How is Flex Stone cut?
Use the cutting tool recommended for the backing and stone layer, such as a sharp knife or fine blade. Support the sheet and test the edge finish on an offcut.
Can Flex Stone wrap a curved surface?
Many flexible stone sheets can follow gentle curves, but the minimum radius varies. Dry-fit the sheet without forcing it and confirm that the adhesive can maintain full contact on the curve.
How should seams be finished?
Plan seam locations, keep the first sheet plumb and use the manufacturer-approved butt joint, grout or sealant detail. Clean residue while it is workable and avoid uneven adhesive buildup.
Does Flex Stone need a sealer?
Some products or locations require sealer and others do not. Use only a compatible sealer and test it first because it can change colour, sheen and cleanability.
Can Flex Stone be used outdoors or in wet areas?
Only when the exact product and complete adhesive, waterproofing and edge-sealing system are rated for that exposure. Decorative stone does not replace required waterproofing or flashing.
How long should the installation cure?
Protect the surface and avoid moisture, cleaning or movement until the adhesive and any grout or sealer have cured under the actual temperature and humidity conditions.
